Beverly Lambert Career Highlights

My educational credentials are an important part of my qualifications as a teacher, but I believe equally important is my long and successful performing career. Here are some highlights.

I’ve performed leading roles in musicals and operas all over the world, from New York City Opera, Carnegie Hall, and Broadway to Canada and the Middle East.

Beverly Sills handpicked me for the role of Fiona in New York City Opera’s production of Brigadoon. I also starred as Anne Egerman in NYC Opera’s production of Sondheim’s “A Little Night Music,” which was broadcast on PBS’Live from Lincoln Center.

I’ve also starred as Magnolia in Houston Grand Opera’s production of “Showboat,” which was chosen by the U.S. State Department to tour Cairo, Egypt where I sang for Heads of State at the grand opening of the Cairo Opera House. Eddie Bracken played my Father, and Tony Nominee Ron Raines played Ravenel, my love interest.

I made my Carnegie Hall debut in Jerome Kern’s “Sitting Pretty,” which was recorded for New World Records. I starred in “A Salute to Sondheim,” also at Carnegie Hall, with Bernadette Peters, Patti
LaPone, Liza Mannelli, Glen Close, and others. Both a CD and DVD of the performance have been released.

OnBroadway I appeared in “Nine” with
Segio Franchi and Raul Julia and in the revival of “Showboat” with Donald O’Connor.
I have also performed as Maria in “West Side Story” for Michigan Opera and Opera Pacific, opposite Steven Bogardus, who has been nominated for both Obie and Tony awards; as Marsinah in “Kismet” for the Canadian Opera, with John Reardon, Tony Award-winner Michael Macguire, and two-time Tony winner Judy Kaye.

In a production called Broadway Salutes Lincoln Center, I sang a duet
with long time Phantom Howard McGuillan of “Phantom of the Opera.” I was Cunegonde to his Candide. A chorus of 100 of Broadway’s best singers backed us. You can hear us sing together here.

My Off-Broadway credits include starring roles in the “
Fantastics” and “Plain and Fancy.” Soap Opera lovers may remember me as Lisa on One Life to Live and Nancy on Guiding Light.
Some years ago I premiered a new musical called “The Gift of the Magi” at the Actors Theater of Louisville, and while I was there I got to see that gorgeous racehorse (and now movie star) Secretariat. He was my most handsome – almost- leading man.

I’ve had so many wonderful experiences as an actress and singer all over the world for 25 years. So when anyone asks me why I stopped, I tell them — I think I’ve had it all!

Now, happily married (Dennis and I recently celebrated 25 years) with a menagerie of birds and our dog, Ceili. I occasionally do benefit performances such as my recent fundraiser for the Pequot Library in Southport or at legendary local venues like the Westport Playhouse. I also helped put together the “Concert for Newtown.” But mostly I concentrate on my second career . . . with all of you, a family that ranges in age from 12 to 50-something.

Performing has been a great joy in my life, but I believe that I now experience something even more fulfilling:  helping all of you grow and achieve your own dreams.

Love,
Beverly

The Beverly Lambert Studio

The Beverly Lambert Studio is housed in a small, rose-colored cottage that looks like it belongs in a fairy tale, built to fit a baby grand piano and some very big dreams. The inside combines state-of-the-art sound equipment with a very subtle, yet sophisticated décor.

Gone is the detached garage that never really fit a car anyway. In its place, a dainty structure with a stone walkway surrounded by flowers. Architect Steven Keedle designed the studio.

The first clue of what goes on inside is the brass knocker in the shape of two half notes. Once inside, the charm is understated and subtle. The palette is simple – a soft garden green with accents of polished silver. Designer Anne Pigue worked with Beverly to make sure every element of the space worked aesthetically as well as musically.

Beverly will welcome you into her studio (minus your shoes, please) through the entryway, where a small bench allows for one or two people to sit and wait their turn. The studio itself is dominated by a brand-new Yamaha piano, and there’s definitely a flair for the dramatic with vaulted ceilings, velvet drapes, and a gleaming silver chandelier.

As a traveler of the world’s greatest venues, Beverly always maintained a pied-a-terre in New York City. For this new chapter in her life, Beverly wanted to create a space that would combine Manhattan chic with Connecticut charm, and that’s just the mix that was achieved. Feeling at home while at work creates a sense of ease for student and teacher alike
“My Favorite commute is now ten feet away from my house, though sometimes my husband has to remind me to come home.”
